Martin McFly, 47, a lifetime resident of Hill Valley, California, announced his candidacy for Mayor today in a press conference with local media members. McFly, a first time runner in the political race, will attempt to take down the incumbent, Goldie Wilson III. As Hill Valley residents know all too well, a Wilson has held the position of town Mayor since 1977. However, the long track record of experience does little to dissuade McFly.
"This town needs change," McFly said. "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We can't keep making the same mistakes over and over. We must realize that the keys to our future come from the past."
McFly was likely referring to Wilson's ill-advised endorsement for Statler Pontiac's hover conversions as Hill Valley's primary economic export. Despite being reasonably priced at $39,999.95, the hover boards turned out to be defective in many cases, crippling the small town's economy in Wilson's most recent term.
"Hill Valley has always been at the head of technological innovation dating way back to the 1800s," McFly said. "It is a mindset we must return to now."
The upstart candidate proposes a renewed emphasis on Hill Valley's growing flying automobile industry. It's no secret that McFly was close to renowned physicist Dr. Emmett Brown, who pioneered the revolutionary propulsion systems now included in nearly every vehicle before his mysterious disappearance. Many political pundits argue that McFly's economic platform is a much more sound approach with greater growth potential than Wilson's.
The two candidates will face off in a debate next Thursday, moderated by Douglas Needles, at the Hill Valley courthouse.
McFly came to national prominence as one of the most successful music producers and business entrepreneurs of the last 50 years. With an almost uncanny sense of developing trends and fads, McFly has managed to stay ahead of the curve and blaze several paths in both pop culture and commercial dealings. He is considered one of the most influential leaders within the industry and has even gained a whimsical reputation among sports bettors for his one-in-a-million predictions.
"He's just like his old man," longtime family friend Biff Tannen said of McFly. "That other guy, Wilson, he's a butthead."
McFly, known as Marty to those close to him, has been married to Jennifer Parker since the 1990s. Together, they have two children - daughter Marlene and son Martin Jr.
