Jared Remy, Son Of Red Sox Broadcaster, Denies Killing Girlfriend

The son of former Red Sox second baseman and current sportscaster Jerry Remy denies accusations that he killed his girlfriend in August, ABC News reported.

Jared Remy, 34, faces murder and assault charges following the death of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, who died on Aug. 15. In an interview from jail with the Boston Herald, he denied the allegations.

"No. That's ridiculous. How dumb would I have to be? I loved her, I still love her," he said when a reporter asked if he killed Martel. According to the Herald, he denied to comment further on his innocence.

He is currently being held without bail at Middlesex County Jail in Cambridge, Mass. after he pleaded not guilty to charges in August.

When police officers arrived at Martel's house after receiving 911 calls, they discovered her bloodied body laying on the patio. According to authorities, a neighbor allegedly witnessed Remy stabbing Martel and tried to stop him. He swung at the neighbor but missed.

The two have a daughter together who was reportedly home during the incident. Remy said she is currently in state custody.

"I just want her to be happy. I love her ... I want her to have everything in life she deserves," Remy said of his daughter.

He also mentioned that he has refused to see his mother and father since his incarceration despite attempts by them to visit him. He has only spoken with his father on the phone.

"I'm just trying to get adjusted here," he said. "I'm sure they're not thrilled with me right now."

Remy had a troubled past prior to his relationship with Martel. After allegations that Remy and another Red Sox security employee were using steroids in 2009, officials launched a full investigation which led to both men being fired. In an interview with The Boston Globe the same year, Remy admitted to steroid use, but said he did not supply his co-worker with the drugs.

In the same interview, he also admitted to abusing a former girlfriend in 2005.
