Believe it or not, but Jacksonville Jaguars sophomore Blake Bortles has actually been a better fantasy quarterback than Peyton Manning this year and, one could argue, a better real life option as well. Borltes ranks fifth at the position with 118 fantasy points thus far while Manning isn't even in the top 25. Shocking, I know.
While Borltes has to be given credit for playing better this season, we must also recognize that he is surrounded by a collection of impressive offensive weapons. But which Jacksonville pass-catcher should you hitch your wagon to in fantasy?
"Armed with twin towers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns on the outside and Julius Thomas down the seam, the Jaguars have relied heavily on their passing game in scoring range this season," ESPN Fantasy Football Insider Mike Clay wrote. "Of course, it hasn't helped that T.J. Yeldon and friends haven't had much success in the area. The Jaguars are the only team in the league without a rushing score this year, and one of three teams yet to score within 10 yards of the goal line. They are 0-for-6 in the area. On the other hand, they've called pass on 74 percent of 23 plays, which is the second-highest in the league. They've scored on 41 percent of those dropbacks, which helps explain how Robinson and Hurns have combined to score nine of the team's 13 offensive touchdowns. Hurns remains an obvious sell-high option."
Overall, Robinson (a 2014 second-round pick), has caught 28 passes for 488 yards and five touchdowns. Hurns has hauled in 29 balls for 460 yards and four touchdowns. Perhaps more indicative of their respective slots in the pecking order, Robinson has racked up 62 targets to Hurns' 43. Clearly, Bortles is looking his way more often. Though Hurns has gotten off to an impressive start, Clay is right to value Robinson higher.
