Demi Lovato: Confident (Safehouse)
Pop superstar Demi Lovato, who has battled an eating disorder and drug issues in the past, asserts her confidence on her fifth album, and she sure looked the part during her performances on the most recent episode of "Saturday Night Live." Hotly anticipated on the heels of the lead single "Cool For The Summer," the album should prove to be one of the biggest pop releases of 2015.
Check out the video for the title track, "Confident," below.
Coheed & Cambria: The Color Before The Sun (300 Entertainment)
Until now, all of progressive hard rock band Coheed & Cambria's albums have been conceptual pieces, complete with an accompanying line of comic books and novel. For "The Color Before The Sun," the Claudio Sanchez-led outfit's eighth release, C&C have stepped away from the concept album methodology. As part of that shift, the band has put aside some of its more intricate, progressive tendencies in favor of a leaner, pop-driven sound, which will likely win over some new fans and disappoint some diehards.
Hear and see for yourself in the high school-themed video for "You've Got Spirit, Kid" (NSFW due to Josh Eppard's naked backside).
Rod Stewart: Another Country (Capitol)
This week, gravelly voiced crooner Rod Stewart will release his whopping 29th album, "Another Country," his first since 2013. Stewart has talked about the personal nature of the songwriting on the record, including the title track, which he said was inspired by his respect for the armed forces, and "Batman Spiderman Superman," based on bedtime stories he'd tell his youngest boy.
Check out the video for "Love Is," a warm, Celtic-flavored folk ballad.
Beach House: Thank Your Lucky Stars (Sub Pop)
Dream pop duo Beach House creates almost mind-altering soundscapes with its music, equally eerie and inviting. On "Thank Your Lucky Stars," the group's second album of 2015 and sixth overall, the
ethereal voice of Victoria Legrand is enveloped by the band's characteristically lush sounds, but there's a bit more straightforwardness than usual, at least rhythmically. Like all Beach House albums, it's a relaxing listen best experienced with the lights turned down, or off.
The entire album is currently streaming at YouTube.
