A road rage incident in Albuquerque, N.M. has led to the death of a 4-year-old girl after a driver shot her in the head on Tuesday. The suspect was the subject of an extensive police manhunt, while there were no clues as to the identity of the suspect. Once captured, the police held the man in custody on Wednesday regarding the shooting.
"We have at least two search warrants we need to serve in order to gather enough evidence to take him from person of interest to suspect. Once those warrants are served and we gather the appropriate evidence, we will make his identity available as quickly as possible," Tanner Tixier, police spokesperson, said, according to Fox 4 News.
The person of interest has been identified as 32-year-old Tony Torrez who has the same description disseminated to the public, as a man in his mid-20s to his early 30s with short dark hair and a goatee on his slim face.
The bond is set at $650,000 in cash, according to the Albuquerque Police.
The victim, 4-year-old Lilly Garcia, and her 7-year-old brother had just been picked up from school when the incident happened. The shooting occurred when a man in a Toyota fired on the family as they were traveling along Albuquerque's main east-west freeway. A bystander called 911 as the father tried to administer first aid to his daughter. Nurses came to the rescue and tried to save the girl after they rushed her to the hospital where she eventually died, Police Chief Gordon Eden of Albuquerque said, according to Mass Live.
Torrez has been detained after the police pleaded with the public for help in identifying and finding the road rage suspect, according to the Business Insider.
