Giannis Antetokounmpo has burst on to the NBA scene and has quickly become one of the most intriguing players the league has ever seen. The 6 foot-11 forward is long, athletic and can do almost everything you ask him to do on the court and the Milwaukee Bucks plan to utilize that a lot this season. Jason Kidd may use the "Greek Freak" at all five positions this season to take advantage of his versatility, according to Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Antetokounmpo will be the starter for Milwaukee at small forward but that doesn't mean he will only stay there. Kidd plans to put Antetokounmpo at whichever position gives him the best chance to take advantage of a mismatch as he can run past bigger four or five men and he can bully smaller guards.
"He's 20 years old and he's going to play every position for us. He never complains. He just goes out there and plays. I think he's showing he's confident in shooting the three. He's confident while he's on the floor and he's doing a lot of good things for us," said Kidd.
The 20 year old Greece native is certainly capable of guarding any of the five positions on defense but the questions will come on offense. Antetokounmpo will likely thrive as a small-ball center as there aren't many centers out there who will be able to stay with him but at point guard he might struggle. Antetokounmpo can handle the ball pretty well but it isn't his biggest strength and he has struggled with turnovers at times so it might not be the best idea to have him running the offense.
Still though, the idea that the Bucks can even consider playing Antetokounmpo at both center and point guard is a testament to his versatility. There aren't many, if any, players outside of LeBron James that you can say that about and Antetokounmpo is still just a 20 year old kid.
For his part Antetokounmpo is open to the idea and just wants to do everything in his power to help the team win and if that means a few minutes at center and a few minutes at point guard he is all for it. Antetokounmpo will have to sit out the first game of the season as he is suspended for a flagrant foul he committed against the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs but he will be back for game two and if his first two seasons were any indication, we can expect a big year from him this season.
