There are already potential relationships on Agent Coulson's team--Ward (Brett Dalton)/Skye (Chloe Bennett) and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker /Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). The latter is a bit more interesting as the two geniuses exchange banter back and forth (most if which we commonfolk can't really understand.) Nevertheless, at times it looks like flirting. However, according to Henstridge, fans may have to wait for Fitz/Simmons (sheesh their last names come tailor-made for shippers) to become a couple.
“There's always going to be a possibility, I guess, because they're so close and really understand each other, but definitely for right now, I don't think you could convince either one of them that they are meant to be together romantically,” she tells TVGuide.com in a recent interview. “We'll just see.”
One of the reasons FitzSimmons appears to be an inevitable relationship is because they’re inseparable. However, Henstridge said the two will have to step up on their own pretty soon.
“When you see them without each other, that brings a whole new dynamic just to them as characters in discovering what it's like to have to be independent because this whole S.H.I.E.L.D. team has come together and everybody is on their own apart from Fitz-Simmons,” the actor told the website. “We will get to see that and it's quite funny.”
While Fitz and Simmons may have to work on their own a little later, Skye will be on her own in tonight’s episode. According to a promo, which can be viewed near the end of the video here posted on ABC.com, Coulson and his team are fighting invisible foes. As the voiceover guy says, “the fate of the world” will rest on Skye’s shoulders.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” airs Tuesdays, at 8/7c on ABC.
