'Totally Texas': Norway Using 'Texas' As Slang For 'Crazy'

Norway has apparently been using the word Texas to describe its most wild and outlandish moments, according to Buzzfeed.

The phrase "helt Texas," loosely translated to "totally crazy," has become synonymous with insane situations or ordeals.

While American culture is just becoming more aware of the foreign slang, it has actually been around since the 1950s, according to The Star-Telegram.

"If you're at a party and it gets a little too wild, people say it's 'getting a little texas,'" said Norwegian and Texan Per Arne Sund.

The phrase has also become common among the people, so much so that news casters are using the phrase to describe odd or bizarre news.

Picking up on the new slang, the Texas Monthly has authenticated its usage, citing several publications in which people casually use the word Texas to describe intense instances.

However, the term doesn't necessarily have to be taken negatively. Some believe that the phrase comes as a reference to the cowboy westerns of old and how the state has become nearly synonymous with that outlaw vibe.

"We were very much enamored with Texas and the American West," said Sund. "Now, it's just part of the language. We say it without thinking about it,"
