Rifle-Mounted Missile Launcher Created By Raytheon Is First Of Its Kind

Raytheon has successfully created a weapon that is as powerful as it is accurate with the arrival of new miniature rifle-mounted missiles, according to LoadOutRoom. The weapon is known as the Pike.

The Pike weighs only two pounds and is 17 inches long, making it super lightweight and easy to carry. It is the "world's only hand-launched precision-guided munition," according to Sofrep.

"Close enough is no longer good enough on today's battlefield. Hitting the enemy-and only the enemy-has become critical to keep alliances together, maintain public support and manage the cost of battle," Raytheon said on its website. "Our new technologies are reliable and cost-effective, permitting precision attacks while avoiding harm to nearby people and structures. They reduce the trade-offs between protecting war fighters and hitting only the desired target."

The Pike is laser-guided and recently passed two field tests where the target was placed 2,300 yards away, striking just within five yards of the desired impact point.

The possibilities that open up with such a powerful and easy way to carry weaponry are a definite draw, as it allows soldiers to enter battles with an advantage in terms of weaponry and maneuverability.

Predecessor missiles were so heavy that often no more than one or two could be brought onto the battlefield, but with these advancements, more missile shots might be a possibility.
