The cafeteria at St. John's Health Center was shut down Thursday after a Los Angeles County health inspector sighted at least 10 cockroaches in its kitchen.
"The kitchen has been closed for two days to safely and effectively manage the problem, under the guidance of county health officials. We expect to reopen Saturday," hospital spokeswoman Patricia Aidem said, NBC News reported.
Patient meals continue to be served, as they are prepared in a separate section of the hospital. Visitors, however, are being given lists of nearby restaurants so they will have ideas of where to get their meals from.
The spokeswoman adds that the sighting of the insects must have been caused by the hot weather, forcing the cockroaches to get inside the building, CBS News reported.
"Providence Saint John's apologizes for the inconvenience to our visitors, physicians and staff and, while it's difficult to control these natural occurrences, pledges continued diligence in ensuring cleanliness and safety," the hospital chain said in a statement, according to Los Angeles Times.
Founded in 1942 by nuns, the hospital has had the chance to care for famous people, including Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson and President Ronald Reagan.
