San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is in his final contract year with the organization and would be highly disappointed if he were traded, according to CSN Bay Area reporter Matt Maiocco.
"I've been a Niner for 10 years," said Davis. "This is all I know. It's really not about me being upset. I understand the nature of the business. It's a business - it is. If anyone was somewhere for 10 years, they'd be highly upset, highly disappointed."
Davis is 31 years old but can still be an impact player in this league. San Francisco clearly looks like it's in rebuilding mode, and earlier this week, there were rumors that changes were coming for the organization. Whether that includes Davis is unknown at this time, but the 49ers may try to get something for the tight end before his contract is up.
"Another player due a huge salary, his role really has diminished in this offense with Jim Tomsula taking over as the head coach. It's unclear what his future is with this team," said NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, via NFL Network. Davis will look to be one of the most talked about players on the trade block before the deadline, but it is unlikely any team will take on his salary and give up a pick.
Davis has been informed by his agent that there has been multiple reports claiming the 49ers tight end would be traded. "He told me not to worry about it," said Davis, via CSN Bay Area. "It's probably just rumors."
Davis has struggled to have a productive season with San Francisco this year, but their entire offense has struggled as well this season. Davis has 170 receiving yards with no touchdowns this season. The 49ers are 2-5, and it will be interesting to watch if they deal their veteran tight end.
