New York snagged its first victory with new coach Alain Vigneault on Monday against Los Angeles, 3-1. Brad Richards scored New York's first two goals of the season, pushing the club to 1-1-0.

"I really liked the way we responded after they scored," Vigneault told reporters, via ESPN. "We came back at them and we kept pushing the pace. Obviously, we got a little bit lucky on the third goal, but part of this game. You need a little bit of luck, and we got it there."

San Jose, meanwhile, sits at 2-0-0. Rookie Tomas Hertl has already made an impact for the Sharks, according to ESPN. The 17thh overall pick of the 2012 draft scored twice on Saturday in San Jose's win over the Coyotes.

"I think it's great, you can see how he's having fun with it and he's smiling so much," Patrick Marleau told reporters. "He brings a lot of energy to us and it's fun to see."

The Sharks have carried their high number of shots per game from last season in to this season. San Jose opened against the Canucks with 35 shots on goal and followed it up against the Coyotes with 51 shots.
