Samsung has become the first mobile manufacturer to officially launch the first curved smartphone. The new Galaxy Round boasts a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display.
The world leader in smartphone business has no plans of giving up on its valued position at the top. To further beat the competition, Samsung Electronics Wednesday, announced the first curved smartphone with a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy Round is the first to sport the company's flexible display, a prototype of which was shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011.
While major brands like Apple, LG and Nokia have been working on this technology for years, Samsung launched the smartphone integrated with flexible display to attract eyes looking for innovation. LG may be trailing closely behind by announcing that it will launch its first flexible smartphone, G Flex, in the coming weeks. The pressure is building up for Apple, which has been the biggest competitor for Samsung and ruled the smartphone sales by launching the latest iPhone 5S.
This launch by Samsung can serve as a learning factor for other companies on how to keep the tech buzz going among customers.
The newly launched Galaxy Round, currently only in Korea, has definitely taken cues from its predecessors, Galaxy SIII and S4 in terms of design. As far as the specs are concerned, it is bound to wow the customers.
Besides the curved display technology, the Galaxy Round is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, 3GB RAM and latest Android 4.3. It sports a smaller battery compared to Galaxy Note 3, yet a sufficient 2800 mAh. The Galaxy Round weighs less than Galaxy Note 3, assuring a firm grip. The 7.9mm thick and 154g-Galaxy Round has a leather stitch back cover like the Note 3, and features a 13-megapixels camera.
The company, known for innovations, does not limit the new smartphone only till curved display technology. If users are wondering what use is a curved display, then Samsung has answered them well, extremely well.
The new features that benefit from the curved display include Roll Effect, Gravity Effect, Bounce UX and Side Mirror.
"As a result of its unique curved design, users can take advantage of round integration experiences like the Roll Effect that enables user to check information such as date, time, missed call and battery easily when home screen is off, and the Gravity Effect for creating visual interaction with the screen by tilting the device," Samsung explained the extraordinary features in a press release. "When the Galaxy Round's display is off while the music player is running, a short press to the left of the device will play the previous track while a short press to the right will play the next track. For pictures and videos, the Side Mirror feature enables users to gain access to list of the album content with a left and right tilt."
The Samsung Galaxy Round will be available in Korea starting Thursday, October 10 in a Luxury Brown color, with more colors to hit the market soon. The international availability of the device is yet not known.
