Donald Trump has an ally in Mike Tyson. The former boxing champion and so-called "baddest man on the planet" sat down to discuss his series on Adult Swim. Over the course of the interview, Tyson revealed that he supports Trump's presidential bid. "Let's try something new. Let's run America like a business, where no colors matter. Whoever can do the job, gets the job," Tyson said during his sitdown with HuffPost Live.
Tyson's meritocratic view of Trump's political thought seems unfounded in light of Trump's view of illegal immigration. But Tyson holds fast that ethnic groups can achieve much in America, while simultaneously stating America was founded on oppression of ethnic groups. Though Tyson was quick to mention that Trump's comments on Mexican immigrants was "crude," Tyson quickly pointed out he doesn't believe Trump is an actual racist.
Tyson was quick to defend Trump's treatment by media and political rivals. "Why are people mad at the people, 'cause this is who the people want to be president," says Tyson. "All the Republicans, all the Democrats, all the Independents they're saying right in the people's face 'you don't know what you're doing, you're going to vote for me next week'...they're telling us we're stupid."
When interviewer Alex Miranda pressed Tyson on his reasons for backing Trump, the former boxer - perhaps drawing on his competitive background - stated: "[They're] getting beat, and that's just who we are as people. We get mad when we get beat, the most humblest loser in the world goes home at night and cries."
Tyson and Trump have a history together, dating all the way back to the 1980s. Trump was a regular attendee of Tyson's matches during the boxer's reign from the 1980s through the 1990s, according to MSN.
Tyson isn't the only celebrity to come out in support of Trump recently. Quarterback Tom Brady backtracked on recent comments he made supporting a Trump presidency, claiming that recent reports that he's endorsing Trump were taken out of context, according to Politico.
Actor Anthony Mackie is another celebrity who claims his words regarding Trump were misconstrued. After inciting a Twitter rage, Mackie stated that his perceived endorsement of Trump was simply sarcasm, according to USA Today.
However, Tyson seems to be a different story. If his words are to be taken at face-value, there's no doubt that "Iron Mike" is siding with Trump.
