The NFL reportedly hopes to have the investigation into Johnny Manziel's roadside incident resolved by the end of this week, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Manziel and his girlfriend Colleen Crowley were pulled over earlier this month after the two were seen in a domestic dispute. Manziel and his girlfriend had both been reportedly drinking. Crowley reportedly told police that the couple had been in argument and that Manziel has hit her several times. Police released dash-cam footage of the incident last week, and since then, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said that the NFL would follow its normal procedure in investigating incidents that violate he NFL's personal conduct policy.
Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer said that the team could not suspend Manziel for the incident, according to ESPN's Pat McManamon. The Browns could have made Manziel inactive for this past Sunday's game against the Rams but decided to let the NFL handle the investigation.
Browns quarterback Josh McCown is still day to day with a shoulder injury, and it is unknown at this time if he will be able to play this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals, according to Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk. If McCown can't play this weekend, the result of Manziel's investigation will have that much more of an impact.
A source close to the situation said that the Browns want Manziel's relationship with Crowley to end, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora. "Some have been hoping there would be a separation for quite some time," said the source. The Browns organization likely wants Manziel's complete focus on football, and have seen how off-field activities have hurt his career. It's unknown what the NFL's punishment will be for Manziel, but it will be an interesting to see how the league handles this issue.
