Samuel Sarpong has passed away. The model, actor and former host of MTV's "Yo Mamma" was just 40 years old when he took his own life Monday.
On Monday, Pasadena, Calif., law enforcement and fire officials received a call that there was a man in an "emotional state" on a bridge, and family members were immediately called to the scene, according to People. "Tragically, after approximately seven hours of communication, the male jumped from the bridge," the police statement read. "He was pronounced deceased by Pasadena Fire Paramedics at 3:52 p.m.
"It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Sarpong, Jr. must share the news that Sam has passed away," a rep said in a statement on the family's behalf. "The family appreciates the thoughts, prayers and other expressions of sympathy, and request their privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time."
"It is sad and troubling when an individual has become so despondent that he or she feels their only option is to end their life," Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said in a statement, according to Us Weekly. "These incidents can often have a significant impact on the victim's loved ones, first responders, and the community as a whole. My prayers go out to the family."
Sarpong was born in the United Kingdom and was the face of Tommy Hilfiger for six years and co-hosted MTV's hit reality series "Yo Mamma" for two seasons alongside Wilmer Valderrama. Earlier this year, he appeared in two episodes of "Bones" and will appear as a guest star in a small role on an episode of "American Crime Story" next year.
"I am so sad and so confused," Valderrama said in a statement to E! News. "Sam did it all, believed in dreaming bigger than anyone around him...We made memories together that will last us forever, thank you for sharing your talent with me and the world...Find your peace my brother! And to everyone in a dark place...PLEASE, please talk to someone...Anyone...Trust me that we WILL listen. My prayers and heart are with family and friends that were blessed to know his beautiful soul."
