The Nokia Lumia 820/920 users who have been patiently waiting for the Amber update on their devices can heave a sigh of relief now as the carrier company will be rolling out the update in the latter part of the day.
However it's better to keep in mind the announcement is not an official one either from Nokia or AT&T. Rather the information was posted by one of the AT & T employees, confirming the details. "AT&T has completed testing the Nokia Lumia 820/920 Windows Phone software update on our network. We expect Microsoft to make the update available beginning 10/10. When the software update is available for you to download, Windows Phone will notify you so you can download it directly over a Wi-Fi connection. We appreciate your patience," reads the post, reports wpcentral.
The Amber update will be received as a part of the GDR2 update that will bring few tweaks over the Windows phone like new camera tools, waking up the device on tapping it twice and flip to silence will turn the device mute on incoming calls. Also the Lumia devices will get a new lock screen with the Glance feature on Amber update and it also supports FM and recently introduced features like CardDAV and CalDAV on Gmail. The GDR2 update will resolve the storage issue faced with earlier updates and will offer improved services like Xbox Music . The storage capacity problem restricted the Lumia users from installing news apps or games filling up the memory spaces with unnecessary data from an unknown origin.
However AT& T users have been eagerly waiting for the update for months. Many of the users have vented out their frustration over the AT&T community forums complaining about the delay. The GDR2 update will basically open the door for the next update GDR3, presently Microsoft is working on and which will be rolled out early next year, according to a recent post in The Verge.
