Universal Orlando Rollercoaster Gets Stuck 140 Feet Above Ground For Nearly 3 Hours (VIDEO)

About a dozen riders on Universal Studio's Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit rollercoaster were stuck 17 stories above the theme park on Wednesday night when the ride stalled due to technical difficulties, CNN reported.

Around 7 p.m. the ride came to a halt 140 feet above the park grounds while several other trains were on the tracks. Park workers were able to remove everyone off the ride, except for a group of passengers on the train which held 10 people hostage for nearly three hours, according to CNN.

The Orlando Fire Department was called in to get the remaining 10 riders off safely. None of the riders were injured, but one woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution after complaining of neck and back pain CNN reported.

Park spokesman, Tom Schroder, called it a "technical glitch" that caused the ride's computers to go into safety mode, making the "system do exactly what it's supposed to do," according to CNN. He mentioned that the ride has suffered similar incidents.

"We are going to work to understand what happened tonight before we reopen the ride again," he told CNN. "The safety system did exactly what it's supposed to do."

According to CNN, the ride was previously closed for two days in August when the coaster came to a sudden stop, which caused one woman to sustain a minor injury.
