Instagram Mobile App Controls Sound and Data Usage; Android Users Can Straighten Images Too

Instagram has included sound and data usage controls in the latest update rolled out for both iOS and Android platforms, Thursday. Android users also get photo straightening feature like on iOS.

It is the survival of the fittest and those who fail to meet the growing needs of the customers fall behind. But Instagram is one app that is cherished by millions of fans, and the company has never let down its users. The photo and video sharing app for Android and iOS has come a long way since a supposed cold war broke out between Apple and Android users when the company decided to share the app with Android. But Instagram tackled the situation in a smart way and balanced the app in both platforms, without giving up.

In a latest announcement via Twitter, Instagram revealed that it has rolled out new update for its mobile app on both iOS and Android platforms. This update can be regarded as one of the most significant ones in the recent past. Users can now control sound and data usage on both version of the app, while the Android app has finally been updated with photo straightening feature. This feature is not new for iOS users as they have been enjoying it for quite some time.

Today's Android update includes photo straightening and new sound and data usage controls for Instagram videos: https://t.co/nH3gArR2Fy - Instagram (@instagram) October 10, 2013

The announcement was not a traditional blog post, but a short and precise tweet from its official Twitter account (@instagram). But getting our heads around the new update was no rocket science.

The sound control feature allows users to mute the sound in the video without silencing the phone's ringer, which was the case until before the update. If the phone's ringer was placed on loud, the video would play on the same volume and would play mute if the phone was placed on silent mode. A new tiny microphone icon changes that, phew!

In addition, the data usage control is very beneficial for users who would like to keep a tab on their download limit. The videos will not be automatically downloaded unless you want them to. Users can choose from setting the automatic download when connected to Wi-Fi. Another feature that was very much needed since the video-sharing was added in June. Thank you!

Finally, Android app is no different than the iOS version of the app with the addition of photo straightening feature. Android users will get an option to straighten a tilted photo before sharing it on the social network.

The updated version of the app is available for download on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
