Oklahoma City Thunder center Kendrick Perkins was charged with assault for allegedly punching a man and a woman outside a Houston nightclub in July. Perkins posted $1,000 bail on Thursday, KHOU reports.
Perkins and his brother-in-law, Quincy Alpough, each face a misdemeanor assault charge for their alleged roles in the fracas.
Miketta Cotton, the woman who claims Perkins punched her, told police the incident occurred when the vehicle she and her brother were in and another vehicle "backed into each other."
Cotton left her car to speak with the driver in the other vehicle. A female passenger then jumped out of other vehicle, pulled her hair back and took off her jewelry - as if she were preparing to fight, according to Cotton.
Cotton said she calmed the woman down, but then Alpough exited the car and shoved Cotton. Cotton's brother, Ja'Keenan, came over to check on her. Cotton said Perkins became involved and punched both her and her brother in the face with a closed fist, causing them to fall.
Another woman who was in the car with the Cottons told police Alpough elbowed her in the throat, which knocked her unconscious. A group of people then began kicking at all three of the victims while they were on the ground.
At least one witness has corroborated Cotton's story, according to KHOU.
The case against Perkins and Alpough had originally been dismissed. Both men were charged with misdemeanor assault when the case was filed again.
"We were made aware of the allegations," Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement, according to USA Today Sports. "It is something we take seriously and are gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this time."
