The Philadelphia 76ers are off to an 0-3 start to the season and although not much is expected from them this year they hoped to be more competitive than they have been recently. The 76ers have dealt with a lot of injuries specifically at the point guard position which is part of the reason for their early struggles but another injury that has gone under the radar this season is the one to Carl Landry as he has not yet played and likely won't until January the earliest, according to Tom Moore of Calkins Media.
Landry underwent surgery on his right wrist to repair torn ligaments during the offseason but he was expected to be ready for the start of the season. After Landry was unable to participate in training camp though, the 76ers ruled him out until November. Now Landry has reportedly had even more complications in his recovery from the surgery that will keep him out until the New Year at the earliest.
Landry was acquired by the 76ers this offseason in the trade with the Sacramento Kings that also brought in Nik Stauskas. He is on the books for the next two years at $6.5 million guaranteed and the Sixers were hoping he would help out the young big men. Brett Brown was excited about being able to acquire Landry because he felt he could provide some wisdom for Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor but his injury has prevented him from doing so.
Landry is now 32 years old and he is an eight year veteran which would be extremely helpful to a 76ers team that is extremely young. The 6 foot-9 power forward is also no slouch on the court as he has career averages of 10.9 points and 5.0 rebounds in 23 minutes per game with a 17.3 career PER. Landry was expected to be the first big man off the bench for the Sixers this season and that is an area they have yet to figure out with him unavailable.
Behind Okafor and Noel Philadelphia doesn't have much depth in the frontcourt so they have been playing smaller so far this season. The two healthy big men on the bench are Christian Wood and Richaun Holmes but they have only averaged 5.3 minutes and 7.7 minutes respectively so far. Landry would provide a big boost to this frontcourt but unfortunately for the 76ers they likely won't be receiving that boost anytime soon.
