Shanghai Open Finals: Novak Djokovic Tops Tsonga in Semis; Awaits Nadal vs. del Potro Winner

Novak Djokovic will defend his title at the Shanghai Rolex Masters final after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinal match on Saturday, BBC reported.

Djokovic successfully defended his China Open title last week, and will try to do the same in Shanghai on Sunday.

The 26-year-old fired six aces during the match with Tsonga, which last one hour and 34 minutes. Tsonga came out looking flat and misfiring wildly at times on his groundstrokes and volleys. He finished with 35 unforced errors and only managed to win 13 of 31 points at net, according the Associated Press.

In a post-match interview, Djokovic said he was pleased with his return at key moments.

"It's important for me to get into another final. My serving was very controlled, very efficient... I was trying to open up the court and move him around. I know he likes to have targets, he likes to play from the backhand corners so I tried not to [let] him into that comfort zone," Djokovic said, BBC reported.

Djokovic will now face either Rafael Nadal, Spain's bull, or it might be a rematch of last week's China Open with Juan Martin del Potro, BBC reported.

After winning the match against Gaël Monfils of France on Friday, Djokovic insisted he remained confident of progressing despite losing the opening set against Monfils, who beat Roger Federer that same day, BBC reported.

"He's one of the best movers we have on tour but he's not physically very fit," said Djokovic of Monfils, according to BBC. While Monfils argued over a time violation, Djokovic pressed on and won the match.

Sunday will by Djokovic's seventh final of the season; he lost at Wimbledon against Andy Murray and at the US Open to Nadal.
