"Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana graces the December 2015/January 2016 cover of Latina magazine, reported The YBF.
A sci-fi star, Saldana's breakthrough role was Uhura in 2009's "Star Trek," according to Latina Magazine. The Domincan and Puerto Rican actress married her Italian husband, artist Marco Saldana, who took her last name in the face of much controversy. They had twin boys in 2014.
"I wake up with a big smile on my face," the 37-year-old actress says about her love for her family: her dirty-blond husband and her adorable baby boys, Cy and Bowie, in Latina.
She also opens up about issues that concern her like immigration and intolerance in the U.S., noted the L.A. Times. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" actress reveals how hurtful it is for her to hear what's being said about Latino people.
“I'm kind of embarrassed when you see all of these people talking on national television, and it's like, 'Oh my God, if your grandfather were alive today, when he came here from Ireland, from Italy, escaped the f-----g war in Russia,'” she says. “You're rotting his name to shame.”
The native New Yorker grew up in both the city and in the Dominican Republic and talks about her controversial role as Nina Simone in her latest film. She says the iconic singer's music is heartbreaking.
“I'll be able to listen to her and not feel so heartbroken once I either finish this movie and release it, knowing that we did the best we could, or this movie goes away. I pray that somebody tells her story and they do it amazingly well,” Saldana says.
Saldana stars in the biopic of the jazz musician and classical pianist Simone. The film shows the singer's rise to fame and her relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson.
"Nina Simone" will be released in U.S. theaters on Dec. 4.
