On Halloween, a night that was supposed to be filled with candy and fun for children, a tragedy claimed the lives of two young parents of four. Crystal, 29, and Donald Howard, 33, were driving to the store to pick up costume supplies for their children. They took a turn off of Broughton Rd, in Morgan County, Ga., and the car lost control, rolled into a ditch and was flung into the air, smashing into a tree. Crystal and Donald died on impact.
However, in the spirit of Halloween, a young Morgan County Trooper named Nathan Bradley decided to postpone the sad news for the Howards' four children, and instead take them out trick-or-treating, giving them at least one thing to be happy about, according to Fox 2 News.
Bradley and the children's grandmother decided it would be best to postpone the news until the following day, when she arrived from Florida. Bradley also took the children out for burgers and milkshakes, and gave them a tour of the troopers' post, where they would spend the night.
"The door hesitantly opened and there behind the locked screen door stood four children in full costume - a 13-year-old Freddy Krueger, 10-year-old daughter of a Dracula, 8-year-old wizard and a 6-year-old that appeared to be a firefighting ninja turtle," Bradley wrote on the GoFundMe page he set up to help the family, reported Fox 13.
The GOFundMe page has raised over $150,000 to give to the family in need.
"I'm am astonished by the support of this family. You all are responsible for this success. The family wants to thank each and every one of you," posted Bradley.
Even though the children will be living with their paternal grandmother, Bradley plans on staying in touch with the children. "I care a lot about them and I want to watch them succeed. I don't want this tragedy to shadow the rest of their lives." he said, according to WSB.
"Compassion is a core value of our Department. Trooper Bradley is a true example of that value," Georgia Department of Public Safety posted on Facebook.
Other police office members heard what happened to the children's parents and decided to pull together and bring the kids candy, toys, and even Disney movies to watch.
"You turned an F-Minus day into an A-Plus night!" the little girl told Bradley at bedtime.
