No. 10 LSU (5-1, 2-1 SEC) hosts No. 17 Florida (4-1, 3-0) as the Gators hope to stay perfect in the conference. Florida's staunch defense has given the team its notoriety this season, and they're in for a battle against LSU's high-powered offense, ESPN reports.
Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger has blossomed under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Mettenberger ranks fourth in the FBS with a 190.1 passer rating. Through six games, the senior completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 1,738 yards, 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
Mettenberger's play pushed LSU to its No. 9 nationally ranked scoring average of 45.5 points per game.
"Zach is playing just like we need him to play at home or on the road," said LSU coach Les Miles, via ESPN. "He is the leader. He is in charge of the communication. Zach is one of those guys on the field who gives you advantages not just with his arm, but with his mind."
The signal caller's supporting cast has been another factor for the Tigers' success. Running back Jeremy Hill ranks second in the SEC with an average of 118.8 rushing yards per game; receivers Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry rank third and fourth in the conference with 686 and 616 yards.
LSU's offense, averaging 488.8 yards per contest, meets a stingy defense that has allowed only 217.0 yards each game, the second-fewest in the nation.
On the other side of the ball, Florida's offense has improved under quarterback Tyler Murphy, who became the starter after Jeff Driskel's season ended with a broken leg on Sept. 21.
Through three games, Murphy completed 72.2 percent of his passes for 520 yards, five touchdowns and one interception for a passer rating of 181.5.
