Every MLB team has until 5 p.m. ET on Friday to present any of their impending free agents (those that have been with the club for the entire 2015 season) with the one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer. The Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals have already gotten to work on that front.
Those players will have seven days to accept the offer. The QO ties that player to draft pick compensation, meaning if the deal is turned down and the player signs elsewhere, the team that signed him must surrender their first-round draft pick to the team that lost the player.
No player has ever accepted the qualifying offer because many are seeking long-term contracts instead in their first year of free agency. Some notable names who cannot be presented with the QO include David Price, Johnny Cueto, Scott Kazmir, Mike Leake, Yoenis Cespedes and Ben Zobrist because they were all traded before this year's deadline and spent the 2015 season with two teams.
Check out those who have already received the QO.
