Colorado's Canon City High was recently involved in a sexting scandal that reportedly involved more than 100 students, according to KDVR. This fueled a criminal investigation, and police officials said some students could face felonious criminal charges. Following this information, the Canon City High football team cancelled its final game of the season, according to Fox News.
Parents were brought in for a meeting on Nov. 5 where they were informed about the sharing of explicit photos between students. Many parents, like Sue Towner, whose son plays on the football team, expressed strong feelings about the sexting scandal. "I'm a little frustrated, but I'm more concerned about the kids and their choices, and I wish they had made better choices and maybe thought about their actions before they did those kinds of things," Towner told KOAA.
"A tip led to a couple more names, an interview led to a couple more," said Cañon City principal Bret Meuli, according to Inquisitr. "At one point, it was, 'Well, everybody is doing this.'" Parents were also encouraged to report any findings of illegal activity or victims, according to KDVR.
The youngest known students to be involved in the scandal were eighth graders. Students were reportedly saving these pictures in other apps, which were disguised to look like calculators.
"It's hundreds, and I mean it was flooring to us how many photos that we were finding on the phones that we confiscated," explained Meuli.
Officials believe there are more explicit photos not yet recovered.
