Oregon Animal Control was sent on an unusual call earlier this week when they responded to a beautiful, but injured, bald eagle that had been hit by a car on the highway, according to White Wolf Pack. The male bald eagle had been feeding off of something he found on Highway I-84 when he was struck by a car, injuring him immediately.
Fire trucks responded and closed off the two west bound lanes of the highway so the eagle could rest while waiting for rescuers to arrive.
Multnomah County Animal Control arrived and captured the bird of prey, according to Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Don Hamilton, and then transported the bald eagle to the Audubon Society of Portland for evaluation. The whole incident took roughly 20 minutes, with all of the professionals working together for the sake of the beautiful bird.
The bald eagle sustained a broken leg and injuries to both feet when hit by the car, but is stable and resting now.
What amazing heroes these rescuers are for stepping in to save the life of this majestic bird. Our symbol of freedom is now on the mend in rehabilitation with the hope that it will be released back into the wild soon when recovered.
