A man who had jumped overboard from the Royal Caribbean's "Oasis of the Seas" cruise ship has been missing since Friday. The Coast guard searched an area of the sea covering 931-square nautical miles located northeast of Mayaguana, Bahamas, using airplane and helicopter crews, but to no avail.
The search was suspended on Saturday after having no luck in recovering the man's body, according to WPTV.
Officials identified the passenger as a 35-year-old man hailing from Brazil. The man had jumped onto a lifeboat and clung to it for over a minute as fellow passengers looked on in horror. There was also video on YouTube showing people trying to save the man, but the clip was shortly taken down.
The man was on the seventh deck of the massive cruise ship when he jumped onto the lifeboat. The incident had taken place at approximately 1:00 a.m. In the video clip, passengers are seen looking on as the man clings to the lifeboat. People are seen shouting, and a woman is also seen asking one of the fellow passengers to throw him a lifeboat, after which the clip abruptly ends.
The man had apparently gotten into an argument with one of the passengers on the ship, The Inquisitr reported.
"Basically, this guy was pretty intoxicated, got into a disagreement with a guy, security then got involved to where he jumped on the boat," said Logan Cunningham, a passenger aboard the "Oasis of the Seas."
"Our report was that he jumped on to a lifeboat and subsequently fell into the water, but regardless of how he ended up in the water we're concerned right now about just finding him," said Petty Officer Mark Barney of the U.S. Coast Guard
The man was last seen wearing a pink shirt with white shorts.
"Because of you, this happened... Let go of me! Get off of me!," he shouted in English as he tried to board off the cruise ship in the middle of the ocean.
Aiding the Coast Guard's search, the cruise ship also launched two small boats to procure the man, according to USA Today.
