Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel's NFL investigation will reportedly come to a conclusion this week, according to ESPN's Jane McManus.
Manziel is under investigation from the NFL for a domestic dispute with his girlfriend that happened last month. Police released dash-cam footage of the incident, where Manziel's girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, is heard telling police that she had been hit several times and feared for her life. Crowley did not wish to press charges, and the two were allowed to drive off together.
Manziel made his second start of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals this past Thursday. The Browns quarterback struggled, throwing just 168 yards and touchdown with a 45.5 completion percentage. Quarterback Josh McCown was ruled out against the Bengals due to a shoulder and ribs injury, and it's unclear when he will be able to return.
Many feel the Browns should continue to start Manziel, as they should see if he could have a future as their franchise quarterback. Starting Manziel down the stretch of this season will let the Browns know if they need to address the quarterback position this offseason, which looks to be the case.
It will be interesting to see how the NFL rules on Manziel's investigation, but the police have reportedly said "various witness testimony" is making this one tough, according to McManus. It's unclear what will happen with Manziel this week, as the Browns have not committed to Manziel as their starter.
