Indiana Basketball Recruiting RUMORS: De'Ron Davis Close To A Decision, Hoosiers The Favorites?

For the past couple of seasons the Indiana Hoosiers have not been at the forefront of the college basketball landscape and that is not something that they are used to. Indiana is bringing in the number 26 recruiting class for the 2015 season and they are looking to continue to build on that for their 2016 class. As of right now Indiana's class is lacking as it barely squeezes into the top 75 but that could change soon as De'Ron Davis is expected to make a decision this week and Indiana is one of the schools he is considering, according to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv.

Davis has his list down to just two schools, Indiana and Mississippi State, as those were the only two schools he officially visited and now he is expected to make his decision on Thursday. Davis visited Indiana back in September and just visited Mississippi State this past weekend. According to Davis' high school coach, Danny Fisher, he really enjoyed his visit to Mississippi State as head coach Ben Howland really impressed him. Mississippi State already has put together a great 2016 class as they rank number ten in the nation but as of right now it seems as though Indiana is the heavy favorite, according to 247 Sports.

"Coach Tom Crean is an absolute powerhouse coach. They've built a great relationship. Coach Crean's ability to develop players and the history of Indiana basketball, the Field house and their academic program for De'Ron is really, really impressive as well," said Fisher of Davis' interest in Indiana.

While Indiana seems to be the favorite now, Mississippi State does have a couple of things going for them. One of those things is the fact that their recruiting class is already stacked but another is that they had the last visit. While it may end up meaning nothing, the team that holds the last official visit typically has the upper hand because that visit is fresh in the players mind as he sets to make a decision.

Davis is a 6 foot-9 power forward from Aurora, Colorado and he ranks as the 47th best player overall and the 11th best power forward in the 2016 class, according to ESPN. Davis is an extremely versatile forward with a lot of athleticism that is expected to be able to come in and contribute right away. Both schools in on him would love to get a commitment but Indiana is the school, of the two, that really needs him as Mississippi State has a top ten class already while Indiana has only gotten a commitment from four-star combo guard Curtis Jones.
