Golden Globe and Emmy winner Peter Dinklage has signed on to play the lead in an untitled comedy project for Paramount Pictures. The Game of Thrones actor, who plays beloved fan character Tyrion Lannister on HBO's hit will lead the cast in a new R-Rated Comedy.
The script will be penned by Andre Dodge, the writer of Jason Bateman's "Bad Words," which caused a sensation at this year's Toronto Film Festival and will be produced by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter.
The project is described as being "deep in R-rated territory" according to The Hollywood Reporter. However, it won't be entirely without emotion and heart. Sources say it plays off Dinklage's size. The story centers around a man who tells people he is a true leprechaun.
The film will be similar in tone to the 2003 comedy film starring Billy Bob Thornton, "Bad Santa." Parent has recently spent time away from Comedy with projects like "Pacific Rim" and the upcoming remake of "Godzilla." However, she is no stranger to comedy as she has made films like "Role Models" and "You, Me and Dupree."
This is the second project Dinklage will take following his fame form Game of Thrones. He will play Bolivar Trask in the upcoming film "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
Many are disappointed that, after playing a role where his size matters very little compared to what his character on HBO's hit series can do with his mind, will be playing in a role that not only focuses on him being a little person but will also make fun of that fact.
However, prior to his work on Game of Thrones, Dinklage's credits included several comedies that poked smart fun at his stature. For example, he had a guest role on NBC's 30 Rock where he played a successful U.N. employee whose stature was a non-issue for everyone except the main character Liz Lemon. He also had a small but unforgettable role in the Christmas comedy "Elf" starring Will Ferrell.
