There is no other word to use when describing the experience that is attending a comic convention than "overwhelming." There are miles upon miles of convention center lined with hundreds of booths selling everything from comics to clothes to real battle axes filled with thousands of people milling around; it's a heck of a lot to take in.
On top of all of that there are a fairly sizable number of people dressed up in some of the greatest costumes you have ever seen. The amount of work that some people go into to craft their costume is clearly evident and a bit awe-inspiring.
Even for an enormous fan of sci-fi, fantasy and comic books there will be hundreds of people dressed up as characters that are still not instantly recognizable because they are semi-obscure. Sure, there are a lot of people dressed as Batman and Wolverine and a surprising amount of Deadpools, but there are just as many people dressed as manga characters that appear in all of one issue ever.
This slideshow contains some of the best costumes from New York Comic Con 2013. It represents only a small sliver of the amount of people that dressed up but still encapsulates the feel of the event.
