Senator Marco Rubio is fighting back against accusations of misusing his charge card when he was Florida's speaker of the house. The presidential candidate recently released his credit card statements, according to CNN.
The rising Republican political star has been under scrutiny for how he used a GOP-issued American Express credit card from 2005 through 2006. Rubio has been taunted by Donald Trump for being financially irresponsible, according to a previous report by HNGN.
Rubio admitted he used the card for personal purchases, but ultimately paid for them with his own money, according to the Washington Post.
Rubio insists the Republican Party "never paid a single personal expense of mine - personal expense," according to the Washington Post. "The fact is, if a charge was billed to the party, it's because it was a party-related expense, which would only be paid by the party if it was approved," added Rubio's adviser Todd Harris, according to The New York Times.
Some of the personal purchases Rubio made included $3,756.24 to Iberia Tiles for flooring for his home, according to CNN. The purchases ranged from $25 at CVS to a $1,600 trip to New York, according to The New York Times.
These statements are more than 10 years old, and the only people who ask about them today are the liberal media and our political opponents," said Harris. "We are releasing them now because Marco has nothing to hide," Harris said, according to NBC News.
