British actor Idris Elba will show off his DJ skills with his upcoming gig as the opener for Madonna on her "Rebel Heart" tour stop in Berlin on Tuesday night, Entertainment Weekly reported. Elba, who was a musician, rapper and DJ before he landed his breakout role as Stringer Bell on the hit HBO series "The Wire," will return to his musical roots, as announced by the "Material Girl" herself.
Elba has dabbled in music in the years since his acting career took off, and he was able to wear both hats with his role as Nelson Mandela in the 2013 biopic "Mandela," according to Deadline. Elba, who is known by his musical alias Driis, recorded an album of South American music titled "Mi Mandela" which served as a companion piece for the film.
The "Beasts of No Nation" star has performed DJ sets at Ibiza and the Glastonbury Festival and will perform for one night during Madge's European leg of the "Rebel Heart" tour, according to Entertainment Weekly. Amy Schumer and DJ Diplo were among the list of American stars that supported Madonna during the North American leg.
Elba won't stray too far from his acting career, though. He's set to reprise his role as the title character of the BBC series "Luther," the Wrap reported. A three-hour movie special featuring Elba as the London detective is set to air on Dec. 17 at 9 p.m. on BBC America.
