Jessa Duggar Opens Up About Being Rushed To Hospital During 'Very Intense' Home Birth

Jessa Duggar gave birth to her and her husband Ben Seewald's first child on Nov. 5, and even though they had confirmed that both Duggar and their baby boy were happy and healthy following the birth, news broke that she had been rushed to the hospital while trying to attempt the birth at home, as HNGN previously reported. While trying to bring her baby into the world in the comfort of her new home, she suffered some complications, causing an ambulance to arrive at the family's home in Fayetteville, and Duggar has now opened up about exactly what went down during this terrifying moment.

The 23-year-old former "19 Kids and Counting" star went through a 48-hour delivery, and it was nothing like what she expected. "Labor is hard. It was very intense, very long," she told People. "Everything was different than I expected."

Their baby boy, who has not yet been given a name, was due on Nov. 1, but when her contractions began several days later and lasted 10 hours, she already knew that she would most likely have to change her plan of having an all-natural home birth.

"I said, 'That's it! I'm done! I am going to the hospital and I'm going to get an epidural,'" she continued to explain. "They asked me if I really wanted to do that and I said, 'No, I don't, but I do.' I wanted to try natural if at all possible." As if the painful contractions, which Seewald said were "emotionally difficult" to watch, weren't enough, when their son finally arrived in their home, her midwife and mother Michelle noticed that Jessa had begun to bleed an abnormal amount.

"Everyone stayed calm," Jessa said of the moment Michelle called 911. "I tried to keep my head, I was awake and alert. I had dreamed about those first moments, getting to breastfeed right away, all that. And so when I had to go to the hospital, it was a shock." She ended up needed a blood transfusion and to stay at the hospital overnight, but as soon as she was feeling better later that night, they brought her healthy baby back to her side.

"Every time I look into this precious little face, I can't believe he's really mine! I feel blessed beyond measure," she captioned her first official photo of him on social media. "So in love! #BabySeewald (P.S. Still haven't settled on his middle name! Looking forward to sharing with y'all as soon as we decide!)"
