Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer decided to throw an incredibly elaborate, and expensive, photo shoot inspired by "The Wizard of Oz" in an effort to boost morale in the face of disappointing quarterly reports, according to the Daily Mail.
The move follows a year after Mayer decided to boost the spirits of her employees at Yahoo by dressing up as Dorothy from the classic film and having top executives for the company join in on the fun.
The shoot showed various executives dresses up as characters from the famous musical, and though it was a delight to many, the price tag of the event has many wondering if it was a good idea.
The event cost a whopping $70,000 to produce, Re/code reported. Many people believe that between the event space, photographer, set assistants, costumes and makeup, the time and money used to make the photo happen could have been used to keep the company afloat.
"It was very embarrassing, but Marissa thought that it was the way to make employees in Silicon Valley happy," said an unnamed source. "We really could not argue."
The picture was then showcased at a company party, which featured a performance by Janelle Monae.
Some of the top brass pictured in the photo have reportedly left since it was taken.
Mayer is supposedly no stranger to these elaborate functions and has since pushed employees to sign a pledge of allegiance to the company, according to SFist.
