Smartwatches are emerging from major companies like Sony, Samsung and Google, and may be the next accessory for high tech-gadget fans, the Associated Press reported.
Sony's new computerized wristwatch called SmartWatch 2 will sell for $200 in the United States and will work with different Android phones, according to the AP.
Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which is only compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone and costs $300, the SmartWatch 2 can answer calls, but not dial them, and a BlueTooth is needed if the person does not want to hold their wrist to their ear, AP reported.
The Gear has no SIM card or data connection of its own and will link to your phone over Bluetooth, acting more as an external display so you don't have to fish your phone out every time it rings, the AP reported.
SmartWatch 2 will complement phone usage with phones running on Android 4.0 or later and promises three to four days of battery life between charges, compared to the one day battery life of the Samsung Gear. The display will measure 1.6 inches, the AP reported.
Apple and Google are also set to release a smart watch; Apple is reportedly producing an iWatch, while Google is almost finished with their Google Now smartwatch, CNET reported.
The Google Now will act as your virtual personal assistant, offering answers to your questions and displaying information relevant to you, according to CNET. All of the apps, emails and directions that would show on your smartphone would be visualized on the smartwatch.
Google plans on making their watch compatible with all smartphones, and extend the battery life and will contain Bluetooth 4.0 support, CNET reported. Sony said on Tuesday that the watch is available immediately through Sony stores or online.
