The Jonas Brothers announced they were cancelling their 19-date tour two days before it was supposed to start. Fans panicked and wondered what had led to the decision. Their spokesman told People magazine that a "deep rift" had led to the decision.
"There is a deep rift within the band," Jesse Derris said. "There was a big disagreement over their music direction."
It was reported that the group - Nick, 21, Joe, 24, and Kevin, 25 - got into an argument about where they wanted their musical career to go. Many fans were left wondering if the boy-band group would split up now. Shortly after the announcement was made reports began to surface citing that the group had a lot of deeper issues they needed to work out before they would ever do another tour together.
Hollyscoop reports that Nick's high demands are one of the main reasons the group cancelled their tour.
"The reason they cancelled was due to Nick not getting along with his brother's anymore, especially Kevin," a source said. "Kevin was demanding that his wife [Danielle Jonas] go on tour and Nick cannot stand her. Neither can Joe."
The source also said tension was building because Nick was also demanding a bigger paycheck.
"Nick was also requesting more money because he believes he is the reason people would come," the source said. "It is not due to ticket sales, but they know their time is up. That is why Nick wants to go solo."
Following the announcement, Joe Jonas was spotted with a drug specialist sparking rumors that he might have a drug problem. According to TMZ, the singer was leaving a West Hollywood recording studio followed closely by Mike Bayer, a well-known addiction specialist.
The day before the cancellation announcement the group performed at We Day Minnesota but were reportedly not very friendly backstage, E! News reports.
"You could tell something was not right between them. They didn't have the same energy they normally have," the source said.
