Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for AMC's "The Walking Dead."
There may be a reason why "The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott M. Gimple is slow playing Daryl's story this year. If you think about, the fan-favorite character hasn't done much besides ride his motorcycle so far. But that could have been a deliberate set up for a major development this week.
As we found out, Daryl encounters some serious trouble in the next episode courtesy of some unknown bad guys. According to The Spoiling Dead Fans, one of those unfamiliars is Dwight, who comic book fans know to be Negan's No. 2. Thus, one would be led to believe that Daryl is about to be introduced to the deadly Saviors, one of the most infamous groups in "The Walking Dead" comic series.
This theory is only bolstered by the recent news that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast as Negan and should be showing up in the season six finale before assuming the mantle of Big Bad for season seven. Similar to the comics, the henchmen of the Saviors are introduced before their charismatic yet psychopathic leader is. It seems unlikely that Gimple would introduce a character whose name is Dwight if he were not the same one from the comics.
However, the Dwight that is seen in the promos does not share the same disfigurements as the Dwight in the comics. In the source material, Negan burns half of Dwight's face over certain, ahem, issues. Talk about having a tough boss. It is possible that "The Walking Dead" is simply introducing his character before this critical event.
Either way, it appears as if the Saviors are coming next week. Hopefully, so too are some answers about Glenn's uncertain fate.
"The Walking Dead" airs on Sundays at 9:00 PM ET on AMC.
