The updated Google Maps for iOS now offers an enhanced navigation experience. iOS users can now take advantage of the Mini Map, Tips and Tricks, new language options, among others.
Google Maps is a service application developed and offered by Google to provide a web mapping tool for iOS and Android users alike. It allows users to find destinations around the world through street maps taken using satellite images. It also has options to choose whether a user is travelling by car or on foot.
The update for the iOS devices includes the Mini Map, Tips and Tricks, new languages and other enhancements.
An ingenious "Mini Map" offers an overview of the route that a user could take. It is an addition to the route selection screen and provides an idea of the traffic situations along the way. This gives the user to take the quicker route instead of checking all the alternative routes before pressing on the preferred course. From there, the navigation mode that shows the full screen map is the same.
The "Tips and Tricks" on the other hand is a new feature that functions as the Help button. It can be found at the app's sidebar that will take user s to the online knowledge base of Google. It provides new Google map users with detailed instructions on how to use the application such as how to search for places, how to personalize the map view, and how to navigate using the turn-by-turn function.
Aside from this, Google also said that the new iOS version, which is now available for download at the AppStore, includes languages in Hebrew and Arabic. It offers voice command and prompts as well as bug fixes.
The recent update August 2013 on the Google Map iOS included Google+ last. Sometime later, it also took advantage of Waze Mobile's traffic information to support the app.
Waze, a recent acquisition by Google, is a smartphone program that uses GPS navigation technology to retrieve data like travel time, route and turn by turn details from information submitted by users.
