One of the most highly anticipated games of the year by Ubisoft, Watch Dogs, will not see the light of the day until Spring 2014, revealed the game developer, Tuesday.
"Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming," Ubisoft said in a statement, reports Gamespot. "It is with this in mind that we've made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014."
Watch Dogs was to be released across all the major platforms- Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PC. Both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gamers are disheartened about the delay as many of them have preordered the game along with the upcoming consoles.
Ubisoft asserted they did not want to compromise on the quality of the game and will be coming up with something that will have the potential to take over Assassin's Creed 4 and other open world games launching this year. The developers believe that they can afford the delay if they are successful in coming up with one of the best games ever. In fact, they say they require the additional time to give the final touch up to the game. "We know a lot of you are probably wondering 'why now?' We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality," Ubisoft said in a press meet, revealed a recent post on Computerandvideogames. "As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience."
Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, also came up with reasons for Watch Dogs' schedule getting postponed. The additional time will be utilized by the developers to add more features to the game for an exceptional experience, said Guillermot. "We are building franchises that will become perennial pillars of Ubisoft's financial performance. In a context of growing successes for mega-blockbusters, the additional time given to the development of our titles will allow them to fulfill their huge ambitions and thus offer players even more exceptional experiences."
Ubisoft's announcement about the delay of its open world title has forced many game retailers in the U.K. as well as in the U.S.to reconsider the pricing of the Watch Dogs bundle to be sold along the consoles at release. Most retailers have assured the buyers that they will be receiving the consoles on time minus the Watch Dogs pack. They are yet to negotiate the price with the changes and will inform the buyers after finalizing it. GameStop, the U.S.-based retailer has come up with an exclusive deal and is offering other game bundles in place of Watch Dogs although it may cost a tad more.
