Tricia the blind cow has been a happy cow loving life on the farm at Farm Sanctuary since 2008 after suffering the abuses of the dairy farm industry. Dairy cows are artificially inseminated in forced pregnancies, then their calves are removed at birth, so they can continue to produce milk, the job they were born into, according to One Green Planet.
So when Farm Sanctuary heard about another blind cow, Sweety, suffering this same abuse for eight years now in the Canadian dairy industry, they stepped in to bring her "home." Sweety was being disposed of through a slaughter house due to health issues, which included being blind and having an infected hoof.
Volunteers stepped up to bring the blind cow to Farm Sanctuary, 350 miles away, where a nervous Sweety had never left the dairy farm, having found her surroundings to be scary, The Dodo noted. However, Tricia softly mooed to her during the night, calming the new cow until the next day when the two blind old golden girls were able to meet for the first time.
They have been inseparable ever since. What a gentle reminder that all lives matter, no matter the disability, the age, the needs, or the animal. All are deserving of a decent, humane life. We are so happy that Tricia and Sweety are now enjoying theirs.
Farm Sanctuary now has four locations, with Jon and Tracey Stewart's farm being the fourth when they opened it early this year, as previously reported by HNGN.
"We talk about taking in 'rescue animals,' but the truth is, just as often, animals rescue us," said Tracey Stewart, excited about working with Farm Sanctuary.
