"Spectre" surpassed new entries to hold top spot at the weekend box office. "Spectre," a Sony release, grossed $35.4 million in U.S. and Canadian, Rentrak said on Sunday. "The Peanuts Movie" from 20th Century Fox also came second for the second weekend in a row with a collection of $24.2 million, according to Bloomberg.
New arrivals showed a lackluster performance at the weekend box-office, led by the holiday drama-comedy "Love the Coopers," which finished in third place, raking in $8.4 million, The Wrap reported.
"The 33," the film based on the Chilean mining tragedy starring Antonio Banderas, earned just $5.8 million for Warner Bros, whereas Aaron Eckhart's sports drama "My All-American" collected $1.39 million.
In a limited release, the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt starrer "By the Sea," hardly made an impact for Universal Pictures, grossing only $38,000 after opening in 10 locations, according to Los Angeles Times.
"The Martian," ranked fourth this weekend. Ridley Scott's space flick earned an estimated $1.9 million, taking its total to more than $200 million domestically.
