Every year on Nov. 15, Australians celebrate Steve Irwin Day as a way to honor the life and legacy of the late Crocodile Hunter. His daughter Bindi Irwin, who is currently a fan favorite on "Dancing With The Stars," took to Instagram to share a touching tribute remembering her father for all that he did for not only her, but to help save animals all over the world.
"The greatest Dad on Earth. November 15. Steve Irwin Day," she captioned a photo of her father. "Remembering everything Dad worked so hard to achieve and continuing his legacy. We miss you so much and are extremely proud to be carrying on in your footsteps. Yesterday we celebrated #SteveIrwinDay in Australia. Today, let's celebrate together on the other side of the world, today on November 15. Thank you for joining us in making a difference. Wearing our khakis and remember everything Dad did to change the world."
Steve passed away tragically on Sept. 4, 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming an underwater documentary. As a hero in the animal activist world, this day will forever remember all Steve did to mark his legacy. "From humble beginnings to worldwide fame, Steve Irwin inspired countless individuals and continues to today!" the official Steve Irwin Day website reads. The Australia Zoo, where Steve worked and Bindi and her family currently work and live, also paid tribute to the Crocodile Hunter on this special day.
"Steve Irwin was undoubtedly the greatest Wildlife Warrior that ever lives and each year on the 15th of November, we celebrate his life and legacy," the Australia Zoo captioned a photo of Steve last week. "Animal conservation was Steve's dream and here at Australia Zoo, it is the core of everything we do, so khaki it this Steve Irwin day and join us for a day of celebration." The zoo then posted another photo on the holiday explaining that all zoo-goers wearing khaki would receive 10 percent off admission.
The Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors also posted a few photos honoring their leader. "Steve's legacy lives on," they wrote. "We sure do miss you boss, but we promise to continue to put our hearts and souls into it for conservation, just like you did-every day." After Steve Irwin Day was over, they posted yet another photo of Steve, this time with a koala bear, letting all their fans and followers know that they had accomplished something amazing on this day.
"Thanks to you, we have reached an astonishing milestone this week; one that Steve would be so incredibly proud of and that we are so privileged to announce: since its opening in 2004, the #AustraliaZooWildlifeHospital has treated over 60,000 native Australian wildlife. Wow," they wrote. "Thank you! Without you this would have never been possible. You remembered Steve, our mate, his message and have continued his mission."
With Bindi doing so well on "DWTS" and making it very clear that she's giving it all to make her father proud, she's even gotten her partner Derek Hough in on the wildlife world. She has introduced him to several animals and even got him to rock some khaki. "Khaki is not just a colour, it's an attitude!" Wildlife Warriors captioned a photo of Bindi and Hough in their matching khaki T-shirts. Hough also took to his own personal Instagram to share an adorable photo of Bindi and her father from when she was a little girl, looking so happy as always. "It's officially #steveirwinday in Australia," he wrote. "He will always be remembered. #legend #teamcrikey4life."
