Qatari authorities said on Wednesday that suspects were arrested following the disappearance and murder of a 24-year-old British teacher, Reuters reported.
Lauren Patterson, a primary school teacher at Newton British School based in the Gulf Arab state, was last seen on Saturday after leaving a night club in the capital of Doha.
"The police has arrested the suspects of a European woman's murder," the Interior Ministry said in a statement posted on its website. "The case has been referred to Public Prosecution to complete further judicial procedures applicable in this regard."
It is unknown how many suspects were arrested and further details on the arrests were not published.
Sky News reported that the woman's mother, Allison Patterson, has since flown to Qatar to "fight for justice."
"Lauren was a wonderful young woman who was having the time of her life in Doha. She had made so many friends," Allison Patterson said. "It wasn't until I came out here I realised just how many people loved her. She loved travel and loved teaching, so this was the perfect job for her."
Patterson's boyfriend, James Grima, expressed his grief on social media during the initial search for his girlfriend and after he found out her body was discovered.
"I can't believe that it had to end this way Lauren, really I don't," he said. "I was so happy that I had finally found someone that could my change my life so much, and in such a positive way too - Rest In Peace babe, I will always look up at the sky cause (sic) you always were the brightest star and always will be."
"I love you so much babe, I really do and I can't get over the fact that you were taken away so cruelly, it really breaks my heart to think about it. I know you're watching over us, wherever you are, and I know that I will meet you again one day."
