One in Four Parents Feel Their Kids See Them as 'Very Uncool' WHY?

A new study published in conjunction with the fourth season of "Modern Family" reveals that one in four parents feel that their kids see them as "very uncool," the Telegraph reports.

The latest study on the phenomenon of kids seeing their parents as old-fashioned, which looked at 2,000 parents with children between the ages of 13 and 25, found that everything from a parent's dress sense, knowledge (or lack thereof) of the latest technology and music, to what kind of car they own (having a "sensible" car was deemed uncool) and even their smoking habits play a big role in kid's perceptions.

"I'm sure many parents worry about what their children think of them as they get older, especially nowadays when there are so many new technologies and celebrities to keep up to date with," a spokesperson for "Modern Family" told the Telegraph.

Almost ten in four parents reported feeling "out of touch" with the younger generation as they're ignorant about new music and gadgets. Only three in ten parents said they read up on the latest gossip, celebrity news and social media to keep up with their kids and their friends.

The number one reasons that parents attributed to their lack of coolness were not knowing which song is currently No. 1 on the charts and failing to work their iPhone without some help.

"No one wants to be the uncool and old-fashioned parent that all the kids find amusing. But it's inevitable that at some stage, your children are going to look at you as anything but hip and trendy - the same as most of us thought about our parents at some stage," the spokesperson said.

As it turns out, eight in ten parents reported the belief that no matter what they did, their kids would still see them as uncool, and 85 percent admitted to having the same feelings about their own parents as children. Only 15 percent of parents, however, worried that their uncoolness would "embarrass" their children, as three quarters of parents realize that it's a phase their kids will soon grow out of.

"There's nothing to be ashamed of trying desperately to keep up with the kids, but it's a fact of life that our kids will always have a little bit of shame when we try too hard," added the "Modern Family" spokesperson.

Failing to grasp the attraction of video games, not knowing what twerking is, not allowing their children to have a Facebook account, phone, or get their ears pierced were all part of the list of 30 things that made parents feel uncool. Click here to read the complete list.
