"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy told reporters season 6 will be its last during a Paley Center event honoring the FX network on Wednesday.
The cast and crew are morning the loss of Cory Monteith, who died of a drug overdose in August. The show addressed the death of Monteith and his character in a "Glee" special titled "The Quarterback."
Murphy told reporters the show's final season was supposed to revolve around Monteith's character and his on and off screen girlfriend Lea Michele.
"The whole [last] year of the show - which will be next year - was really designed around Rachel-Cory/Finn story. I always knew that. I always knew how it would end," Murphy said. "I knew what the last shot was - he was in it. I knew what the last line was; she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do."
According to PerezHilton.com, last week's Glee episode hinted at the possible ending for Lea Michele's character Rachel.
"Rachel Berry said she knew how it was all gonna end that she would land a big Broadway gig, perhaps a Woody Allen movie too, but she'd always come back to the Glee room where Finn would be teaching. She'd open the doors and tell him, 'I'm home," the gossip site reports.
Lea Michele recently opened up about Monteith's death, saying filming his tribute episode was "therapeutic."
"For me personally, I've lost two people: Cory and Finn. We had a beautiful memorial for Cory in the auditorium and some of the cast members sang and people spoke about him. It only felt right that we would do the same thing for Finn, so I felt it was very therapeutic," she said.
"Everyone is asking: 'Is it hard to do this? Is it hard to be back at work?', but the truth is it's no harder at work than it is in life," Lea added. "So we might as well all be together as a family supporting each other to get through this together."
