Alexandra Daddario has joined the big screen adaptation of "Baywatch," alongside her "San Andreas" co-star Dwayne Johnson.
Daddario will play Summer, a lifeguard who is the love interest of Zac Efron's aerobicized life saver, according to Deadline. Nicole Eggert played the role of Summer in the original "Baywatch" TV series in the mid-'90s.
The short list for the "Baywatch" female lead also included Ashley Benson, Nina Dobrev, Alexandra Shipp, Shelley Hennig, Bianca Santos and Denyse Tontz, according to Deadline.
Johnson also announced the casting on his Instagram.
"IT'S OFFICIAL: Want to welcome the talented and gorgeous @alexannadaddario to the cast of #BAYWATCH for the role 'Summer,'" he captioned a photo of him and Daddario. "Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can't wait for you guys to see her own the role."
Johnson added, "The female roles of #BAYWATCH have become extremely hot properties around Hollywood and as promised, the quality women we'll cast are stepping into these roles to have fun and make them iconic for the world to enjoy."
He teased other casting announcements would be coming soon including the role of C.J. Parker, made famous by Pamela Anderson in the TV series.
Daddario responded to The Rock's welcome message in her own Instagram post. "Thank you! Excited to be joining Baywatch," she wrote.
In addition to "San Andreas," the 29-year-old actress' previous credits include "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" and a recurring role in the first season of "True Detective."
