Jenny McCarthy and Charlie Sheen played love interests for several episodes on his long-running hit TV show "Two and a Half Men," and now that he has revealed he is HIV positive, McCarthy is offended that he kept it a secret from her as they shared many scenes together.
During her SiriusXM radio show "Dirty, Sexy, Funny" on Wednesday, McCarthy opened up about the topic and explained that in the acting business, you have to sign a release disclosing whether or not you have cold sores, and this made her think how something so much more serious like HIV went unmentioned, according to Us Weekly.
"I don't even know how to feel about that. I'm like, 'Wait a second. If I have to be so upfront about a herpe, how could you not be upfront about HIV?" the 43-year-old actress said. "I look back and think, 'OK, that could've been valuable information.' Look at how many people have played his love interest on the show...I go, 'Ick!' That's not fair. It's scary.' I have sympathy for him because he's sick and it's awful, but man he's going to have to take major accountability for many people in his life."
Once news broke that McCarthy had voiced her opinion on Sheen's major health announcement, Sheen's manager Mark Burg wanted to clear things up. "Charlie was infected long after he left 'Two and a Half Men," Burg told People. "And long after he worked with Jenny."
McCarthy and Sheen were love interests on the CBS show for eight episodes from 2007-2011, but Sheen has made it clear that he was not diagnosed until after he was on "Two and a Half Men." Even if he had been, McCarthy is still missing one major point - a point that Sheen's doctor made very clear during his "Today" show interview - and that is that HIV lives in the blood and some body fluids, so it cannot be passed on through just kissing.
